Vince Gaydarzhiev, founder of award-winning Californian company Alcatraz and one of the people behind Apple’s Face ID technology, is coming to SKYDD 2026. On the Tech Stage on 21 October, he will discuss the development of facial authentication for access control and how the technology can combine high levels of security with protection of personal privacy.

Gaydarzhiev was part of the development team behind Apple’s Face ID. His experience there laid the foundation for Alcatraz, which went on to develop the acclaimed access control solution The Rock – a system that uses facial authentication as a digital credential.

During the seminar, he will explain how facial authentication can provide fast, frictionless and secure access without compromising users’ privacy or GDPR requirements. He will also share his perspective on developments in biometric security systems and discuss the growing importance of facial authentication in the future of identity and access control.

From Face ID to Physical Access Control

Under the title “The Evolution of Facial Authentication”, Vince Gaydarzhiev will share the journey from the development of Apple’s Face ID to the founding of Alcatraz. He will explain how his experience in the consumer market inspired the development of a new generation of biometric access control, where the face is used as a secure and privacy-conscious digital credential. He will also highlight the importance of AI and machine learning in today’s and tomorrow’s facial authentication-based access control systems.
